Cookies Policy

Cookies are small text files that a site saves on your device. Alongside cookies there are similar technologies — such as the browser’s localStorage — which this policy treats in the same way, because to you they do the same thing.

Our approach, in one sentence

We always measure, but without cookies until you allow them.

• If you accept, we use first-party analytics cookies (Matomo, hosted on a server of ours).
• If you refuse, or do not answer, no analytics cookie is installed. We keep counting the visit in anonymised, aggregated form, with the IP address masked in its last two octets.

We do not use advertising, profiling or remarketing cookies, nor third-party advertising tools, and we do not share browsing data with advertising platforms.

Technical cookies — always active

Necessary for the site to work: they do not require your consent.

• cmplz_* — store the choice you make on the banner. Duration: 365 days.
• wp-wpml_current_language — remembers the selected language. Duration: 1 day.
• wp_consent_* — pass your choice on to the site’s components. Duration: session.
• cn_disclaimer_ack — remembers that you have read the notice on technical content. It is not a cookie: it is an entry in the browser’s localStorage, and it stays until you clear your browsing data.

Analytics cookies — only after your consent

We use Matomo on a server we run ourselves: the data never leaves our infrastructure and is not passed on to anyone.

• _pk_id — tells repeat visits apart without identifying you. Duration: 13 months.
• _pk_ses — recognises the current session. Duration: 30 minutes.
• _pk_ref — remembers where you arrived from, including when the link carries a campaign parameter. Duration: 6 months.
• mtm_cookie_consent — records that you have consented to analytics cookies, and it is what allows _pk_id to survive from one visit to the next: without it, it would be regenerated every time and repeat visits could not be told apart. Duration: 365 days.

Third-party content — only if you turn it on

YouTube videos are not loaded until you click on them: in their place you see a preview of ours. Before the click, no data reaches Google. By clicking you accept YouTube’s cookies, and the notice reminds you at that moment.

Server logs

To keep the site and its visitors secure, the server records the requests it receives: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser used. These logs are kept for 14 days and are used to spot unusual access and attempted attacks.

The same logs, in anonymised form — with the IP address masked in its last two octets — also feed the site’s visit statistics, on the basis of the same legitimate interest. Processed in this way they do not allow an identified person to be traced.

On which legal bases

• Technical cookies: the need to provide the service you asked for.
• Analytics cookies: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can give or refuse it on the banner and withdraw it at any time from the preferences panel.
• Cookieless measurement and server logs: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping the site secure and in understanding how it is used, with anonymised data. You may object by writing to privacy@connectinformatics.com.

What happens if you refuse

If you refuse, no analytics cookie is installed and browsing stays complete: no feature of the site is switched off. The visit is still counted in anonymised, aggregated form, without cookies and with the IP address masked, so we know how many people read the site and which pages they read. We are telling you here because it is right that you should know, not because it is buried in a technical detail.

Managing cookies from your browser

Besides this site’s preferences panel, you can allow, block or delete cookies from your browser settings: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera all have a dedicated section in their help pages. There are also tools such as Ghostery, Your Online Choices and uBlock Origin.

Changes to this policy
